Demand Response

Demand Response (DR) agreements enable a company to reduce their electricity consumption in response to system needs, while receiving a year-round financial payment in return. 

DR is playing an increasing role in Ontario's electricity sector.

  • DR enables the electricity system to reduce demand within existing infrastructure, such as factories or hospitals, when the supply of electricity is tight and prices are at their highest.
  • DR allows users to reduce their costs by reducing or shifting their energy use to alternate times of the day when energy is cheaper.
  • Companies receive payments for this shift in usage, creating a new revenue stream and further reducing overall costs.
